Roald Dahl Torrisholme Treasury: A collection of extracts, poems & stories

Welcome, welcome one and all, to our Roald Dahl Torrisholme Treasury

This collection of material is not intended to be shared in any way or redistributed. We miss reading to you all in class so instead, we are doing it remotely until we can reunite once more... very soon 😀. Enjoy listening to, and reading, some of Roald Dahl’s most splendiferous stories and pooflebang poems!

'The Three Farmers' Chapter 1, Fantastic Mr Fox, read by Mrs Marriott

An extract from ‘Boy tales of childhood’ The bicycle and the sweet shop

Ms Crozier reads Chapter 1 of Matilda

Bruce Bogtrotter and the Cake from Matilda read by Mrs Rogers

I chose this chapter from Matilda because the Trunchbull, who is a mean old monster, meets her match with Bruce.

Fantastic Mr Fox, ch 2

I hope you enjoy this chapter. Be good and we’ll see you soon x

The BFG 'Dream- catching'

I have chosen the BFG as my favourite Roald Dahl text. I absolutely loved this book when I was a young girl, and have really wonderful memories of my mum and dad reading it to me at bedtimes. I love the story, and the hilarious (and at times utterly ridiculous) vocabulary. If phizzwizards, bogthumpers and cockatootloos interest you, then have a listen :)!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Don't you just LOVE chocolate? Obviously as part of a balanced diet.😉 Well this book is one of my favourites because I love sweet treats! I also really admire the character of Charlie Bucket and Grandpa Joe. I am SO pleased when he finds his golden ticket! Chapter 14/15 is the point in the story where Charlie actually meets Mr Wonka and enters the magnificent, mouth-watering Chocolate Factory! 'm so happy for him, he deserves this!

The Pig

I have always loved pigs. Both my Grandad's were pig farmers and I've always thought they were interesting animals. Have you ever thought about what a pig thinks about? This poem may give you some insight...

Red Riding Hood and the Wolf read by Mrs Hunter

This is my favourite poem from Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes. I enjoy making all the different voices and it says the word, 'knickers!' It makes me laugh! I think Roald Dahl is very clever being able to change the story to make it rhyme and have a different ending.

My Teacher

Short poem by Ronald Dahl

Esio Trot Part 1 read by Mrs Scholey

Esio Trot Part 2 read by Mrs Taylor

I really REALLY love this story and feel like I’ve been hugged every time I read it! You can probably tell by the brim on my face! We hope you enjoy the story as much as we do! Thank you , Roald Dahl, for spreading smiles like confetti through the world with such wonderful stories. 😁

James and the Giant Peach Chapters 10 & 11

When James enters the giant peach he finally gets to meet his magical new friends ready to start his exciting new adventures with them.

Roald Dahl poem from 'Revolting Rhymes' -' Jack and the Beanstalk'

Why have I chosen this text from Roald Dahl? Well, because I love poems! Roald Dahl was a master of simple and effective rhymes which make you laugh out loud! I love reading poetry out loud, especially the different voices, and Jack's mother - who sounds a bit like my old gran, bless her - is the best! I've included the words - so get reading along to the poem and see if you can sound like my old nan too!

Chapter 7 'Happy Birthday', Charlie & the Chocolate Factory with Mrs Hunter

I particularly like this part of the story because of how it shows the suspense each member of the family feels as Charlie unwraps the chocolate bar, knowing that there is only one Golden Ticket left. It also reflects Charlie’s kind and humble character when he tries to share his only present with his family.
